Photos

There are over 800 photographs of flood related images arranged in folders by decade.  The photographs have been retrieved from a variety of sources including newspaper and museum archives and photographs from individual donors.  Users are advised that copyright is retained by the original owners and copying is prohibited.  To view the photographs, the user will need Adobe Acrobat Reader mounted on their computer.  For the added ability to execute a search within each folder, Acrobat Reader version 7 or above is required.  A free copy of the latest reader can be downloaded from www.adobe.com.

On selecting one of the following folders, Acrobat Reader may display a slide show of the photographs for that decade.  To stop the slide show, close it.  It may also prompt the user to download Acrobat software. If the software is not wanted, close this prompt.

Acrobat Reader displays the photographs individually.  View them by scrolling through the main window or select them by scrolling through the thumbnails.  If you have Acrobat Reader 7 installed, the pictures can also be searched for keywords by clicking on the Search icon (the binoculars).

The Excel spreadsheet lists the attributes of each photo and facilitates filtering them.  Thus photos can be searched for attributes such as place taken, rural/suburban, built environ/agricultural, colour/sepia, etc.

Video

Channel 7 of Adelaide have kindly provided video footage of flood reports in South Australia, which are included on this disc.

The footage can only be viewed on your computer through the use of DVD playing software (eg PowerDVD©).  If your computer has this software, the videos should automatically be recognised and run once the software is launched.  Normally you would launch the software from the computer’s desktop or through the Run command on the Start menu.

Alternatively, the footage can be played on a DVD player connected to a TV set.  If using a DVD player, only the video footage is available for viewing - the other features and functions on the DVD are not accessible.

To assist with viewing the multiple video clips, a listing is of the locations and dates they were taken is available here as a printable download.
